Implications of the ASR update in macOS 10.15 Catalina

ASR has been updated for APFS volume replication including the capability to restore from snapshots.

See the second section of WWDC session 710: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/710/

Secure network boot aside – I'm thinking that there are big implications for the future of solutions like DeployStudio...

Seems like Apple is sending mixed signals about imaging.  What else uses ASR apart from that, though?  Is it used to facilitate OS or Time Machine recoveries?

I would love to go back to ASR imaging with APFS. But I think Apple will still require DEP process to be part of activation, especially considering all of the new MDM features with elevated security requirements (e.g. kernel extensions).
