Booting to Black Screen of Death

Some backstory.

I've been using DeployStudio with just MacBook Airs for years without any issues. We've now added some 27" iMacs to our fleet and right off the bat they wouldn't boot to the network. I updated the iMacs to High Sierra and made a NetBoot set from the iMac and added it to the server.

Now both my MacBook Airs and iMacs boot to the black screen of death.

Any advice would be appreciated here.

The iMacs did not ship with High Sierra. Restore them to the previous OS.
Create your netboot image from the Sierra OS installed on the iMac, or find the instructions for creating a netboot image from the Sierra installer.

Just to clarity, updates are interim (10.12.1, 10.12.2, 10.12.3,..) patches released throughout a major OS version's life cycle.
Upgrades take you to the next major OS version (10.12.x to 10.13.x).

High Sierra (10.13.0) is not ready for prime time. Use Sierra, unless the machines shipped with High Sierra.

Thank you for the advice. Sorry I didn't have a chance to test this sooner.

I grabbed a different iMac and got it up to the latest updated version of Sierra and then created a NetBoot set from that. Now when I boot I get the black screen as seen in this image. Any idea what might be up with that?

On a client machine > Download & install DeployStudio
Run DeployStudio Assistant
Create a DeployStudio NetBoot set
Service information step> do not check anything
General settings step> leave everything as is
Service directory step> Connect to specific servers> Preferred I set by hostname and alternative I set by IP address, leave versions mismatch unchecked
Authentication step> check Display Runtime log window by default, uncheck Put display to sleep, leave Reboot automatically checked, everything else I leave
Options step> leave everything default
Destination step> save it to Desktop

In the meantime on the server I made a backup of the previous set and then deleted everything from the NetBookSP0 folder and turned NetInstall off in the Server app

Once it's done I AirDropped it to the Server in the next room and moved it to the /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/ folder and then turn NetInstall back on in the Server app

I think that's about it.
