Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

For some reason DS can't see the 10.12.6 recovery partition image properly, it claims it's 10.12.3 so the set creation fails.  This is a freshly captured set of 10.12.6 images from DS.  Unclear why it is reading the version wrong and failing.
Need a fix so we can get a unified image again that supports all hardware given the 2017 MBP are currently unsupportable with their custom build.

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

I recommend trying the fix suggested by maurits on macadmins slack:

"create an image using AutoDMG from the fresh Install macOS 10.12.6 app, mount this image, and use that as source for creating the .nbi . On the image (and thus on the mounted volume) there is a fresh 10.12.6 Recovery HD partition. Using updates, the Recovery is usually not updated"

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

I am having trouble getting 10.12.6 Boot sets to create correctly as well. I've tried a freshly installed copy of 10.12.6 using an install disk and DS 1.7.6. I've also tried the AutoDMG option described above. Also tried building it using multiple macs all with the same result. The error says DeployStudio bootable external drive creation failed - An Error occured while trying to create the bootable external drive. Please check the System Log. There is nothing that even shows up in the system log related to Deploy Studio so I'm not sure what I should be looking at there.

Has anybody successfully made a DeployStudio 10.12.6 Boot USB or Net boot Image yet?

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

Yes, I have created a netboot set.  I have not tried creating a bootable usb drive.

But sadly my netboot set only works with older hardware.  It will not boot the 2017 4k iMac that I used to create it.  :(

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

There seems to be multiple issues here.
1. Apple is failing to update the Recovery partition with 10.12.6.  I have not seen this issue before.
2. DS can not properly recognize any OS past 10.12.3.  This is based on the error messages claiming all recovery partitions are 10.12.3 when they are anything later and don't match.
3. DS is capturing the wrong recovery partition in a capture operation.  It should be capturing the partition of the disk you are capturing, but it captures a different disk's recovery partition instead.  I verified the versions in the plists on the various partitions to determine this bug.
The result is a complete inability currently to get a 10.12.6 recovery partition by any means due to incompatibilities and failures.  While we wait for DS to be updated to address these problems, if anyone has managed to capture a 10.12.6 recovery partition and can post the DMG for download somewhere it would be appreciated.

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

The trick for me was:

- boot from internet recovery (command, option, R)
- Install Sierra (10.12.6) on your hard drive
- it will fix your local Restore partition

You can now create a boot image and create "Master from Volume" with Deploy Studio Assistant and Client

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

Yeah I got somewhere similar in the end, had to wipe the drive entirely so I got a fresh install, and it only worked on the latest MBP that needed a custom 10.12.5 kernel.  Older hardware installed 10.12.0  Then I had to use command line to capture the partition and feed it to DS assistant.

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

Can anyone confirm that model A1707 is working ?.
I have tried to make a complete new install from internet recovery. Afterwards Install deploystudio on the computer and create a netboot set that I move to the server. But when try to boot up it show the "no access" icon couple of time and then restart. I can install older models fine.

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

Just as a suggestion, you might want to list the Model Name instead of the Model Number.
Why?
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015) has model number A1419
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) has model number A1419

Re: Can't create 10.12.6 netboot set

Maybe stupid question, but how do I see which version my recovery version has ?. I can not find any "about" when I boot up on the recovery

If you mount the partition, or go through it in terminal, there is a version.plist in the system library structure somewhere.  I forget the path off hand, but it's pretty obvious once you look.
