Re: Upgraded to 10.9, now DeployStudio fails with Repository Access Error

Dear All !
I am quiet new to this forum, but I registered because we had the same issue with the repository!
We could connect from a different machine running OSX to the share but not a netbooted new one!
I redied the whole Mavericks Server and just entered one user at all wit read and write permissions,DNS and DHCP active !
The share, even if it was on the same disk I seted up the Deploy Server not with local folder!
I entered share point and then entered: afp://IP-Adress/Daten f.i.!

That worked really fine! Everything is working again !
Cheers

Re: Upgraded to 10.9, now DeployStudio fails with Repository Access Error

I had this repository issue on both servers, one server was able to make sure it went to cifs and http for the netboot and everything was happy, then on the other server with same settings it would not work. Reinstalled the 10.9 (fresh) and installed and settings and everything worked good.

Re: Upgraded to 10.9, now DeployStudio fails with Repository Access Error

Same problem with OS X 10.9.4 and DeployStudio 1.6.11. Couldn't mount the repository, yet could connect to the afp share from any other Macs.

Fixed in the Server app by selecting the local DSAdmin account, selecting 'Edit access to services' and checking 'File Sharing'.

Re: Upgraded to 10.9, now DeployStudio fails with Repository Access Error

Apparently in 10.9, you cannot connect to a local computer's file sharing from itself.  If you try via the Connect to Server in the Finder, you are told it is a local resource and "Access the volume and files locally".  In the Console log is an entry like "NetAuthSysAgent: GetStatus: connecting to self not allowed".  This is then breaking DeployStudio when you try to setup a single machine to be the server and the file share for the repository.  The Assistant cannot confirm the connection back to the local resource.  Using the DNS name, the IP address, a 2nd IP interface, etc, all result in the same thing.

I'm not sure that DeployStudio can be written around this too easily, unless you setup the server process to know that it had local files to access but still told the clients to use the file share URL.

Alternatively, does anyone know how to make 10.9 not do this?  I can understand why for 90% of users, connecting to your own files via a network interface is not a good idea, but for those of us who know what we are doing, it would be nice to tell NetAuthSysAgent to not block this!

Re: Upgraded to 10.9, now DeployStudio fails with Repository Access Error

This inappropriate repository issue seems to still be a problem?  It's entirely unclear why this is happening.  The repository seems fine, it's accessible by afp and http from other machines, but the netbooted client running the DS runtime says it's inappropriate for some unknown reason.  Seems rather obtuse.  Has anyone identified why this happens and how to fix it?  Running on 10.10.3 with Server 4.1 and DS 1.6.15

this has been the case for a very long time. (10.4 or earlier?)

Re: Upgraded to 10.9, now DeployStudio fails with Repository Access Error

Had the same issue. I trouble shooted and fixed it this way

1. Made sure in file sharing both AFP and SMB where enabled for the ds share
2. Went to a Windows machine to confirm I could see the share, I couldnt see it.
3. Deleted the share and recreated it....it worked. I could see it in windows. Went to DS and BOOM! It worked.

Not true. I do this and it works
