Wifi shows inactive after deployment

Hopefully someone can help with the odd issue I'm having which has no information on the net about it.

I use deploy studio to deploy Mavericks to over 70 iMacs. The process/issue is:

  1) I install a clean install of Mavericks via recovery boot.

  2) All is working well on the image and wifi is working perfectly.

  3) I then capture the image through deploy studio ( using the default work flow task)

  4)  Once captured I then deploy the image to a imac, when its completed I login and by default the wireless is in a inactive state. So I thought maybe its a one off but unfortunately this wasn't the case. After 10-20 seconds the wireless will go back to an inactive state.

Any ideas? Ive tried everything

Is it the capture image thats causing the wifi issues or am i doing something wrong when doing the capture process

Thanks

Re: Wifi shows inactive after deployment

Did you create your image on a laptop?

It sounds like you created the image on one machine with different network hardware, like a laptop and then deployed it to a desktop.

If that is the case you have to remove these files from your image:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

There is also a checkbox in the deployment task in DeployStudio that will remove all machine specific files for you, don't remember the exact name but that should help you.

Re: Wifi shows inactive after deployment

Hey!

Thanks for the reply mate.

I created the image from a imac (which has built in wireless) then deployed it back out to the same imac so its very strange....

If i delete all files for the network adaptor (the locations you suggested)  will the imac re install them after a reboot? If so im going to try it next week to see if it was currupted.

Re: Wifi shows inactive after deployment

The option "Delete Network configuration files" in the restore task should fix your issue. Give that a go.

My favorite is to send wifi configuration to the clients by Profile.
(and no wifi settings saved on master)
This way it works best on different types of hardware (iMac's with ethernet and wifi, MacBook air with only wifi and optional thunderbolt ethernet, etc)
