Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

I had a working Deploy Studio Server. Recently, I discovered that it was not functioning. I had found that it was 'stopped'. When I try to restart it, it fails to start and gives a message to examine the system.log. The entry from the log ( pertinent to Deploy Studio ) is below.

<-snip->

<-snip->

This is repeated over and over.
Note: the network address and mac address were correct. They have been x'd out.

I have tried several versions of Deploy Studio. 1.6.4-NB131027 being the latest. After I install and configure the server, it does not start.

I need some help with this. I'd rather not reinstall the OS.

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

Did you try to stop the service, reboot, start the service?
Looks like the port is already in use...

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

Admin,

Yes, I did try it. It starts up, then later, the same behavior.

Your response gave me the idea of changing the port that it operates on. Instead of port 60443, I chose 60445.

I will post with the results after giving it a day or two.

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

I have the same error on 3 of my machines that are used as servers for netbooting.
I can reboot and start but host in unreachable on the client side.

What worked for you?  When changing ports, did you rerun the setup?

Changing the port number worked for me. I reran the Assistant and changed the port during the setup.

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

Thanks for the feedback. lsof and netstat may help to determine which process is using the default port and its status.

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

An update,

I had set it up to be a master server. When I switched it over to be a replica, it exhibited the non-starting behavior. It would try to replicate from another server and then stop.

If it is up and running, I can manually copy the image files and it would work.

I will need to refine my findings. It may stop starting after it tries to just copy the image files, or when it tries to copy any file from the master.

I will post what I find out.

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

I have no issues on my master, but I do on 3 replicas, identical issue.

Now on the repicas, I add an issues where OpenDirectory was needing to rebuilt for authentication to work correctly.
If I remove deploy studio and reboot, no issues. Open Directory is happy.
Once I re-install DeployStudio and let it sync, Open Directory goes wonky again.  Does not matter what Port I use DS on.

Any thoughts or Items you would like for tracking this down?

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

I am having the same issue on a replica:
Mac Pro Server
OS X 10.9 (fully patched)
Deploystudio 1.6.3
Link aggregation (2 ethernet ports bonded)

I have 1.5TB to sync quite urgently, but after syncing only a small amount it gets stuck with the "Throttling respawn:" error over and over again. Finder also freezes when this happens. So far I have found no solution but to reboot the server (which usually then gets stuck on shutdown too).

If anyone has managed to get past this issue, I would greatly appreciate your advice!

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

Hi All

This issue plagues me also.
Running as Replica
OSX Server 10.8.5 with Deploy Studio 1.6.3
I have gone as far as rebuilding the server from scratch and installing Deploy Studio last of all with no change in the issue.
Only using single Ethernet port.
Has any one found a solution for this issue?

Re: Error starting DeployStudioServer with a General CFSocket error

My guess is it has something to do with the SSL certificates in use by the server.
My problems started when I had to renew the SSL cert.

I had to uninstall the server and manually select another certificate during the setup process.
