Latest DS version installed on OS X Server 10.12 - 10.8.5 deployment?

Hello.

If we're using the latest DeployStudio version (1.7.6 at time of writing), are we able to install DS on an OS X Sierra 10.12 server, and deploy & netboot 10.8.5 clients?

Thanks!

Short answer: Yes, but it may need some additional work.
Long answer:
For deploystudio server you have 3 versions of macOS:
-the server itself (relatively unimportant)
-the NetInstall (.nbi) version
-the deployed (inside the .dmg file) version

You want to deploy 10.8.5 I suggest this method:

-connect a 10.8.5 in Target Disk mode to the DS server
-make a .nbi from this volume using the DS assistant
-enable this .nbi (as default?) in NetInstall
-netboot your clients
-deploy your 10.8.5 image

Other methods:
If you have already created a .nbi from the server OS (most common used option, so a 10.12 .nbi), and your Mac's can boot 10.12, you can netboot them from this .nbi, and still deploy a 10.8.5 image.
