Macbook 2016 Netboot issues?

What have you done to get the new mac book pro 2016 to netboot? It's reaching out to the netboot server, but it just dies with a netboot image made from a 2016 model. Net booting it to an older image gives the prohibited sign, but at least it's doing something!

NetBoot: Made from 2016 macbookPro 13" and 15" using the deploy assistant.
Server: 10.7.5

I'd appreciate any insight.

Re: Macbook 2016 Netboot issues?

My process is a little unorthodox, in that I create my netboot images while booted from an external boot volume connected to my target hardware (2016MBP-13inch-touchbar in this most recent case).

The first step is to make sure that the external drive can boot the machine, and has a matching OS version recovery partition. This is best performed by going to the App store, downloading the current OS installer, and targeting the external drive for installation.

After that, boot the new machine from the external, create the netboot set on the external and copy that to the server.
Test netboot and imaging processes.

Re: Macbook 2016 Netboot issues?

Perhaps you should create a netboot-set from a VM.
My first MBP 13" Touch Bar arrived today. The deployment with DS 1.7.5 (NetBoot 10.12.2 created from a VM) and an AutoDMG (1.7.3) 10.12.2-image worked flawless.
For Ethernet I used USB-C —> USB-A + USB —> Ethernet (both Apple), since this is only 100 MBit, the process took a while...

I just enrolled the same MacBook with TB3 —> TB2 + TB —> Ethernet (Apple), this works fine as well (and a lot quicker ;-)

Check the permission on the NBI set it to 775. Also make sure that the delivery method is the same on the DS netboot set up as it is on the netboot server (HTTPS or NFS)
