Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

We were running DS 1.6.15 on OSX 10.10.3 and it was working fine. Upgraded the server to OSX 10.11.3 and started to get problems. Upgraded DS to 1.7.2 and still getting Repository Access Errors when netbooting the client. It worked successfully once or twice but is now failing every time. I've made new netboot sets many times. I've tried ticking the box to only allow encrypted connections on the Repository File Share but it doesn't make any difference. I've run out of ideas.

Re: Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

I upgraded to OS X 10.11.3 on three servers.
I am now in the habit of unsharing and then resharing the repository, in Server.app, after each upgrade.

Worth a try? it only takes a minute or two...

Re: Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

Hi Chris,
Much to my dismay, I have been subjected to a very similar (likely the exact issue).  The only difference I can see is the OS X  differ between you and I.  I have over 7 hours of troubleshooting and this morning I began the "nuke and pave" process.  (I am archiving my 900+GB repository, reinstalling OS X and Server App).
I will post up on the results.

Here is a link to my May Day thread http://www.deploystudio.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?id=7589

Today I experienced the same problem: 'Repository Error' (OS X 10.11.3/DS 1.7.2).
After I walked through the "Setup a DeployStudio Server", the repository error disappeared.
Never seen the message before though...

Re: Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

The runtime log shows the following error:
mount_smbfs: server rejected the connection: Authentication error

I am using a local account on the server, the same one has been used for years. I can log into the server with the account so it is working OK.
I can also connect to the repository manually from my own laptop using Cmd-K in Finder.
I have run the Server setup from Assistant many times and it hasn't fixed the problem.

Ran server setup from assistant and changed the repository access from smb to afp and it is now working.

Re: Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

Also, is your repository on the same Volume as your OS, Server.app and DeployStudio install?
This morning I have been able to successfully mount a clean slate repository on a share on the local boot volume, but not my interfaced external Thunderbolt drive where I need my repository to be...
Please advise and thanks!

Yes, now running DS 1.7.2 on OSX 10.11.3 successfully. The repository is on a different physical hard drive. We have a Mac Pro with a standard HDD for the OS and DS, the repository is on a separate SSD.

Re: Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

I'm new with DeployStudio, and I'm getting an error "Repository access error" when i try to image a computer.  I'm running OS X 10.11.6 and Server 5.2.  Could someone let me know how to unsharing and resharing in the Server?
I appreciate any input.

Re: Solved - Repository Access Error OSX 10.11.3 DS 1.7.2

You should know the local (while logged into the server) path to the repository folder before doing this. If there is the possibility you have more than one repository folder (you should not) on your server, determine which is the valid repository folder first.

Select "File Sharing" on the left side
Select the repository folder's name in "Shared Folders"
Click the minus sign to unshare it
Click the + sign, then navigate to, select your repository folder, and click Choose.

That should do it.
