Computer name in Runtime Window Title?

I'm not sure how possible this is due to the architecture, but it'd be very handy if the window title of runtime had the serial number and computer name.

One common workflow I have is to unbox a bunch of new laptops and have them auto named (...LAB-001, ...LAB-002). It'd be a time saver for me if the title bar had the computer name (either auto-generated or from the computer name list) so that while these 20 or 30 computers are imaging I can walk up and down the line printing out and applying the labels. As it stands now, I have to do the labels later, after imaging which is another chunk of time.

Re: Computer name in Runtime Window Title?

If this could be done it would be great :)

im in the same boat as you and I re image alot of the macs i look after 2times a year for new students so would save alot of time with naming them :)

I have though just made a script that you can run from the desktop that asks the user to enter their name which then renames the computer to what they entered.

If you want to use a apple script as well here is the script below.

Just open up apple script and enter all of that and save it as a app and then you should be able to double click it and it will hopefully work. hope it helps

tell application "Finder"
    activate
display dialog "Enter your name:" default answer "Your Name"
set computerName to text returned of result
end tell

tell application "System Preferences" to activate
delay 2
tell application "System Events"
    tell process "System Preferences"
        set frontmost to true
click menu item "Sharing" of menu "View" of menu bar 1
        delay 2
        tell window "Sharing"
            text field 1
set value of text field 1 to computerName
        end tell
    end tell
end tell
tell application "System Preferences" to quit
