Features Desired For Power PC

This thread is only for those who still need to support Power PC Macs. It is an unsolicited effort to help the development team prioritize the features that we would like to see added to Deploy Studio before support for Power PC Macs is discontinued.

If you don't support Power PC Macs, then please don't post to this thread.

In the thread titled "How critical is PowerPC support?' http://www.deploystudio.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?id=2849, admin indicated that "If the last nightly works on ppc hardware, we should be fine for one more year." That was back on 30 March 2011.

So, if there are some features that you would really like to see included in the final versions that will still support Power PC, please add them here.

Re: Features Desired For Power PC

The enhancement that I would most like to see is the "Install a Package Task Enhancements:" suggested in the document "Collection of Tasks Proposed for Deploy Studio" http://www.deploystudio.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?id=2423. This would allow us to install many existing packages without having to modify them.

Number two, would be the "Selection Task", as described on the above referenced thread, which would allow us to control optional installs.

And number three would be a "Deploy Studio Task SDK". Because with that, we could do anything else we needed to.

Re: Features Desired For Power PC

I just kind of jumped into Deploy Studio this month.  It turns out that most of the build and install processes are jsut dressed up shell scripts.  It's pretty easy reading (and I don't normally read shell scripts) but it seems like the SDK request might be sated by some poking around in the scripts.

In fact I've made a few feature requests that I might retract just because it's pretty easy to script in bash.  I'm firmly of the position that the developers should focus on 10.6+ As what worked when older hardware was released will continue to work for that hardware.

It would be nice to allow a new server to host a legacy repository but frankly any old http server will do.

Re: Features Desired For Power PC

Terrance & Ed, With all due respect, please go back and read the first line of the first post. Your posts are clearly off-topic.

Your post would be better suited for the "How Critical is PowerPC support?" at http://www.deploystudio.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?id=2849

You may want to delete it from here and repost it there.

Since DS 1.5.17 is to be the last build that will be compatible with Mac OS-x version 10.5, that means that it is the last one compatible with Power PC machines as well. Thank you to the Deploy Studio team for all of the fine upgrades that you did put in that got us to DS 1.5.17.
